Silver Lake Boat Meet
The workshop today was a great success.
Alan Fredricks started out with a demonstration of how to use a tick stick to layout the framing ribs on a wood boat.
Next up I did a quick presentation on Custom Craft boats. We covered the history from the wood kit boat days through the companies eventual demise. The highlights were the triple shift production with 170 workers in the early 60's. There was a warm reception by the mostly wood boat crowd, and there seemed to be alot of interest. We had a good ten minute question and answer session afterwards. A few Custom Craft owners approached me after the presentation, hope to see you all here on the site.
Following my presentation, Rich Rappold gave a demonstration of a wood bottom installation on a Century that he is working on at the center.
I couldn't stick around after the show because I had to get back to work. I've been doing alot of boat related things on Saturdays lately, and my boss could only spare me for a few hours. I wish I could have stuck around longer and talked to some more of the members.
Looking forward to spring when we can get some of these boats out on the water.
Some interest was expressed in a spring run up the canal.
